Rawlings asked to intervene in wife’s presidential ambition

Apam (C/R), April 25, GNA – Former President John Jerry Rawlings has been asked to convince his wife, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, to discard her intention to contest the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential primaries in July this year.

The Paramount Chief of Gomoa Akyempim, Obrifo Ahunako Ahor Ankobea II, made the call through Ghana News Agency in an interview at Apam on Sunday.

Obrifo Ankobea said though Ghanaians appreciated the role of the former first lady in national politics, especially the support for her husband in the NDC administration, she should shield her presidential ambition for now.

He said: “This is not her time,” adding that Nana Konadu could cause irreparable damage to her ambition if she does not wait for God’s time.

Obrifo Ankobea said the former first lady must abandon her intention to save the image of her husband, who has been a great critic of President Mills’ administration.

He said some people would consider the former President Rawlings’ criticism as machinations to prepare the grounds for his wife to occupy the presidency.

Obrifo Ankobea said that the recent tour of President Mills to some regions in the country indicated that his government had performed well.

He said from the projects executed by the government so far as captured on video clips during the tour, President Mills deserves a second term.

The chief said the President’s style of governance had won the admiration of many Ghanaians, who were prepared to vote to return him to power in 2012.
