The Rastafari Council of Ghana has resolved to sue the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Education Service and the Mfantsiman Girls’ Senior High School for denying their wards admission due to their dreadlocks.
They claim this follows the refusal of authorities of some mission schools in the Central and Greater Accra regions to admit students with dreadlocks.
Public Relations Officer for GES, Rev. Jonathan Bettey told 3FM that wearing dreadlocks to school violates the code of conduct of the Service for public schools.
The Service on behalf of the Ministry of Education wrote an official letter to parents refusing their request to have their children wear dreadlocks to school. But according to Communications Director of the Rastafari Council of Ghana, Ras Kofi Collins, this is a violation of the children’s fundamental rights.
Lawyer for the Council Ras Wayo has disclosed that their decision to file a suit against the authorities will be effected Friday, November 18.
