Rainstorm renders several sunyani residents homeless

Sunyani, April 21, GNA – A severe rainstorm that hit Sunyani at the weekend ripped off the roofs of many houses and rendered several residents homeless.

The worst affected areas included Penkwase, New Dormaa and Nkwabeng all suburbs of the town.

Mr Kwasi Anan-Frimpong, Sunyani Municipality Director of the National Disaster Management Organization, who disclosed these to the the Sunyani Regional Hospital, there were no casualty.

Mr Anan-Frimpong said a delegation from the Municipal Assembly including Mr Ignatius Baffour Awuah, Chief Executive, and Mr Yeboah Asiamah, Planning Officer, visited the affected people to console them and to assess the extend of damage.

He said: “The Assembly is making plans to relieve the affected people of their predicament” adding that that disaster volunteer groups had been set up in the various communities to response rapidly to disasters.

Mr Anan-Frimpong said the unemployed among them would be assisted to undertake afforestation and farming. 21 April 04
