Rainstorm renders more than 70 people homeless

At least 70 people were rendered homeless when a severe rainstorm ripped off the roof 25 buildings including the Church of Pentecost on Thursday at Abene near Abetifi in the Kwahu East District.

The victims are currently taking temporary shelter with friends and relatives.

Nana Simpi Wiredu II, Krontihene of the town, who conducted the Ghana News Agency around the affected buildings, said there were no casualties.

He appealed to the National Disaster Management Organisation and the Kwahu District Assembly for assistance.

Nana Wiredu said the victims would need building materials to rehabilitate their buildings. He advised the people to plant trees around their buildings to serve as wind breaks.
