Rainstorm renders 200 people homeless

Apromase (Ash), March 18, GNA – About 200 people, including children at Apromase, a farming community in the Ejisu-Juaben district have been endered homeless following a severe rainstorm that hit the town last Thursday.

About 20 buildings, including the community clinic, Church of Christ Chapel, some Basic Schools and a Poultry Farm had their roofs ripped off.

Mr. Nicholas Owusu-Sekyere, Assembly Member for the town said there were no casualties and appealed to the Ejisu-Juaben District Assembly and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) for assistance for the victims.

He however, said several million of cedis of personal effects were destroyed, adding that three low tension electric poles and wires have been destroyed and that the people were without electricity, Mr.Owusu-Sekyere said a similar incident occurred in the town in 1999 which also caused extensive damage to buildings in the town and its environs.
