Rainstorm kills two and destroys properties in two districts

Tepa (Ash), June 8, GNA- Rainstorm hit many towns in the Ahafo-Ano North and Tano South districts resulting in the death of two women and the destruction of several buildings. At Bomaa in the Tano North district, Madam Akosua Attah, 71, and Akosua Mansa, 65, were separately trapped to death by falling trees at their farms. Their bodies have been deposited at the Tepa District Hospital for autopsy.

Kwaku Sarfo, 34, who was seriously injured when the wall of his room fell on him, was admitted at the Tepa Hospital where he was treated and discharged.

At Tepa, Betiako, Manfo, Mmeredane, Subriso, Ammakrom, Bonkron and Asuhyiae in the Ahafo-Ano North District, several buildings were destroyed, displacing a number of people. Among the buildings destroyed were the perimeter wall of Tepa District Hospital, two classrooms of Vasco International School and cocoa shed belonging of Adwumapa Cocoa Buying Company, all at Asuhyiae. Nana Eric Agyemang Prempeh, the Ahafo-Ano North District Chief Executive, accompanied by Mr Joseph Kankam, District Co-ordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), had visited the affected areas to ascertain the extent of damage caused to the buildings.

The DCE advised the people to plant trees around buildings to serve as wind breaks to protect life and property, and asked the people to rehabilitate their old and dilapidated buildings to prevent them from collapsing.
