Rainstorm hits two communities in Agona District

Agona Kwestwikrom, C/R, March 20, GNA- About 200 buildings,, including classroom blocks and churches had their roofing were ripped off at Agona Kwesitwikrom and Agona Nyasakyere when a severe rainstorm hit the two-sister towns on Sunday.

Mr Albert Quainoo, Assemblyman for the Area, who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency in a telephone interview said four people who sustained minor injuries were treated and discharged at Agona Kwanyako Clinic. He said about 300 people, who rendered homeless are putting up with relatives, while others are staying in the local Methodist Church and New Apostolic Church buildings. The Assemblyman told GNA that the rainstorm lasted for more than three hours.

He said the most affected include some private houses, African Faith Tabernacle Church and the SDA church. Mr Quainoo stated that the rainstorm uprooted some trees planted at the vantage points of the two towns and destroyed 24 coconut trees and some food crops.

He therefore appealed to the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) and Agona District Assembly for assistance.
