Tabre (Ash), Oct. 31, GNA – A severe rainstorm last Thursday hit Tabre near Asante-Akropong in the Atwima-Nwabiagya District causing considerable damage to property and rendering about 400 people homeless. The storm ripped off the roofs of about 40 buildings with the worse affected being the chief’s palace, the quarters of the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) and the local Catholic Church.
Also seriously affected was Topman’s poultry farm where he lost about 600 layers.
Nana Sarfo Akuman Ababio, chief of Tabre told the GNA that the storm started about 16.30 hours on Thursday and lasted for about 30 minutes.
He has made a passionate appeal to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and the District Assembly to assist the victims who are now staying with friends and relatives.
Mr Joe Kofi Adu, Atwima NADMO Co-ordinator, described the disaster as the worst recorded this year and advised people to plant trees around their houses to serve as windbreaks.
Meanwhile, Mr Thomas Ofori-Donkor, Atwima-Nwabiagya District Chief Executive, Owura Beneto Bio, Member of Parliament for Atwima-Nwabiagya and Mr Osei Amponsah, Ashanti Regional NADMO Co-ordinator have visited the victims.
