Rainstorm hits schools at Npakadan and environs

Npakadan (E/R), Feb 12, GNA – A severe rainstorm has hit Npakadan, in the Asuogyaman District of the Eastern Region, ripping of the roof of the Presbyterian Early Childhood Development Centre and a number of houses.

Speaking to the GNA, Nana Kofi Ansah 11, Chief of Npakadan, said the rainstorm from the direction of the Volta Lake hit the town around 11.30 PM uprooting trees serving as a windbreak. Nana Ansah said the destruction caused by the storm is estimated at over 30 million cedis and appealed to the District Assembly, NGOs, and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and well wishers, for assistance.

He stated that at the moment pupils of the Centre were attending classes under trees while people rendered homeless were putting up with friends and relations.

Nana Ansah asked NADMO to assist the victims with relief items and to help in the training of fire volunteers in the area to check the outbreak of bushfires prevalent in the area.
