Rainstorm hit Sunyani Municipality

Sunyani(BAR), Feb. 5, GNA – Torrential rains caused extensive damage to Boahenkorkor ‘B’ Presbyterian Junior High School, ripped-off roofs and destroyed educational materials estimated at GH¢10,000 at Sunyani Municipality and its environs on Monday evening. There was no casualty.

Speaking to Ghana News Agency (GNA) after a tour of the area, Nana Kumi Akyeaw II, Headteacher and Chief of Abesim, explained that Mr Fosu Gyeabour, Sunyani Municipal Director of Education, informed him about the disaster.

He said “The students currently study under trees, which is not safe for them being at the mercy of the weather.” Nana Kumi Akyeaw said the disaster affected four classrooms and one should be rehabilitated for the final year JHS students preparing for this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE). He appealed to government, individuals, NGO’s, churches and philanthropists to assist in the rehabilitation of the school to avoid disruption of academic work.

Nana Kumi Akyeaw urged government to award contracts for public institutions to competent and qualified contractors to avoid wastage of funds and ensure value for money. 05 Feb. 09
