Rainstorm displaces dozens in Akatsi North

Dozens of residents in the Akatsi North district of the Volta region have been rendered homeless, following a rainstorm which hit the area last Monday evening.

The storm which swept through the Ave Dzalele and Kpeduhoe communities ripped off about 37 houses and displaced about 94 persons but without any casualty.

District Chief Executive for the area, Jame Gunu who confirmed the disaster to Starr News Volta Regional correspondent, Lambert Atsivor, said the affected persons are currently putting up with their relatives.

He said the assembly is also mobilising resources to support the victims in the interim, as they await relief items from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).

The disaster which is becoming a periodic occurrence, according to Gunu, is largely attributable to the absence of enough trees which will serve as wind breaks during rainstorms.

He, however, hinted of plans by the assembly to embark on tree planting projects as a long term remedy to the situation.
