Rainstorm destroys property at Brakwa

Brakwa (C/R), April 7, GNA – A rainstorm last Sunday blew off the roofs of 28 houses at Brakwa in Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District, leaving in its wake damaged property estimated at millions of cedis and rendering more than 160 people homeless.

Buildings affected included those belonging to the Methodist Church, the Presbyterian Primary School, Unity Preparatory School, as well as the Kyidomhene and Banmuhene palaces.

Television poles and farm crops including plantain trees were swept down while electricity power was disrupted. Personal belongings such as beddings and clothes were soaked as rooms got flooded.

The District Chief Executive for the area, Mr Sampson Anfako, who visited the affected areas, has appealed to the District Disaster Management Organisation to come to the aid of the victims.
