Rainstorm destroys home science block at Mpasatia

Mpasatia-Ashanti, April 25, GNA – The fate of about 183 home economics students of Mpasatia Secondary/Technical School to participate in this year’s West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) is in a balance due to a rainstorm that ripped off the roofs of the school’s home science block. Mr Kwasi Adu-Gyamfi, Headmaster of the school said “The future and fate of the 183 out of the 326 registered final-year students is bleak if the home science block is not re-roofed to enable them participate in the practical examination.”

Mr Adu-Gyamfi, was speaking to newsmen after he had accompanied Reverend Thomas Takyi, Chairman of the Board of Governors of the school, to inspect the extend damage caused by the rainstorm. He said items in the building that were destroyed were estimated at over 100 million cedis and included gas cookers, refrigerators, sewing machines and cooking utensils.

Others were electrical gadgets, equipment, teaching and learning materials and quantities of the student’s practical materials. Mr Adu-Gyamfi said the rainstorm also destroyed part of the school’s fence wall and ripped off the roofs of the student’s place of convenience.

He therefore, appealed to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Atwima-Mponua District Assembly, institutions, organizations and philanthropists to assist the school authorities to re-roof the block to enable the students participate in the examination. Rev. Takyi appealed to resident and non-resident citizens of Mpasatia to mobilise resources to rehabilitate the block. 25 April 07
