Rainstorm destroys boats and nets

Twelve fishing boats with nets were on Tuesday damaged following a severe rainstorm that hit Komenda and it surroundings.

Opanyin Kwamena Arthur, Chief Fisherman of the Komenda Fishermen Association said because of the rocky nature of the Komenda landing beach, fishermen do not land completely at the beach but anchor their boats mid-way in the sea.

Opanyin Kwamena disclosed this at emergency meeting with the fishermen Komenda. He, therefore, appealed to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and the District Assembly to assist the victims to acquire new canoes and nets.

He said on Tuesday at about 0200 hours, a severe rainstorm hit the area dragged the anchor and damaged their boats and nets.

Opanyin Kwamena, therefore, appealed to the government to build a landing beach for fishermen in the area to avoid future occurrence of similar incidents.
