Rainstorm destroys 388 houses in Zabzugu/Tatale District

A severe rainstorm over the weekend destroyed over 388 houses, displacing about 1,000 people in the Zabzugu/Tatale District.

The rainstorm, which affected 15 communities, also destroyed three public schools, a butchers’ shop and foodstuffs.

Alhaji Umar Wahab, Zabzugu/Tatale District Chief Executive (DCE) and Mr Zakaia Yahaya, the district Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), have toured the affected areas.

Mr Yahaya said about 88 households had collapsed and those affected are living with relatives and friends, while others had bought roofing sheets on credit to re-roof their houses.

He mentioned some of the affected communities as Nahojili, Tatale, Kohiyili, Kuyoli, Zabzugu, Tasondo, Kapligben and Benatabe.

Alhaji Wahab later presented mattresses, mats, blankets, cups, buckets and washing basins to some of the affected victims.
