Rainstorm destroys 22 houses at Yipala

Bole, July 6, GNA – A rainstorm has destroyed about 22 houses including the palace of the local chief, Nyenyan-wura Alfred Yahaya Mahama at Yipala in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District of the Northern Region.

Mr Shakour Alhassan, District Chief Executive (DCE) and Mr Joseph Jando, District Co-ordinator of the National Disaster and Management Organisation (NADMO) inspected some of the affected homes and presented four packets of roofing sheet and six bags of maize to the victims. Mr Alhassan expressed his sympathy to the affected people and gave the assurance that the ruling National Democratic Congress, would do everything possible to ease the suffering of the people.

Nyenyan-wura Mahama who received the items on behalf of the people thanked the District Assembly for the haste by which “their distress call was attended to”, saying “it is the first of its kind”. Mr Jando, advised the people to form the habit of growing trees for protection against winds and use cement to build their houses instead of mud to be able to withstand the rains. 06 July 09
