Rainstorm damages property at Dormaa-Ahenkro

Dormaa-Ahenkro (B/A), June 15, GNA – A severe rainstorm, which hit Schaefer Street, a suburb of Dormaa-Ahenkro has caused damage to property worth about 15 million and rendered 40 persons homeless. The affected persons have since been putting up with friends and relatives in and around Dormaa-Ahenkro.

The storm, which preceded a torrential rain, ripped off the roof of a six- bedroom house and tossed the flying roof into a nearby compound house causing massive destruction to four rooms, but left no casualty. Mr Philip Kwaku Agyemang, landlord of the compound house told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that occupants of the four rooms had travelled out of Dormaa-Ahenkro on the day the incident occurred.

The landlady of the crumbled six bedroom house and queen mother of Kyeremekrom, a farming community near Dormaa-Ahenkro Nana Akua Ameyaa said all eight occupants of the house were indoors when the storm twisted and turned the block but they all escaped unhurt.

She expressed deep sorrow at the manner the roof of her house had flown and perched on the compound house but thanked God that no one got injured in the process.

Nana Akua Ameyaa appealed to the National Disaster Management Organisation to come to the aid of the affected persons with basic necessities like mattresses, blankets, food and clothing. Meanwhile, the Dormaa District Chief Executive, Squadron Leader (rtd) Benjamin Anane Asamoah who has visited the displaced persons has assures them of the Assembly’s support. 15 June 07
