Rainstorm damages property at Asunsu No. 1

Asunsu No 1 (B/A), Feb. 16, GNA – A severe rainstorm has hit Asunsu No 1, a predominantly farming community in the Dormaa District of Brong Ahafo, causing extensive damage to property.

The cost of damage is estimated at millions of cedis. Buildings affected included the mission house of the Bethany Church and the residence of teachers of the local basic school. Briefing Ghana News Agency (GNA) on the extent of damage, Mr Gabriel Adinkrah, Assembly Member, attributed the damage partially to the on lukewarm attitude of the people towards taking preventive measures such as tree planting and the use of storm-proof building materials.

He appealed to the Dormaa District Assembly, the Dormaa District Office of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) and NGOs to come to the aid of the victims.

The Assembly Member advised communities in the area to be disaster conscious and to take steps to avoid the recurrence of such damage associated with rainstorms, bushfires and domestic fires.
