Rainstorm damages poultry feed company

Sunyani, Feb 01, GNA – About 400 mini bags of maize worth about 80 million cedis got damaged when a rainstorm hit some parts of Sunyani Municipality at the weekend.

The storm that lasted about five hours also damaged electrical installations and ripped the roofing of GRAINPLUS Limited, the biggest private maize handling and feed manufacturing company in Sunyani. Mr Martin Amankwaa, Managing Director of the company, appealed to the National Disaster Management Organisation and other benevolent institutions to assist the company to rehabilitate the structure. He told the GNA in an interview that the company’s wooden structure had the storage capacity of about 1000 mini bags of maize and could dry 120 maxi bags of maize a day.

The feed manufacturing plant has the production capacity of two metric tonnes per hour.

When GNA visited the scene, workers were busily removing the soaked maize from the damaged structure. The company suffered a similar mishap in April last year, during which maize worth more than 200 million cedis was destroyed.
