Rainstorm causes havoc to Asanteman

Asanteman (E/R), Oct. 20, GNA – A heavy downpour accompanied by strong winds on Sunday swept through Asanteman in the Birim Central Municipality leaving its trail one dead person and an injured child.

When the Ghana News Agency (GNA) visited the town to assess the damage caused to the community, an aged opinion leader who pleaded for anonymity, said on Sunday evening, during the downpour, a wall collapsed on two school children whiles buildings had their roofs ripped off as low lying farmlands submerged.

The opinion leader said one Ayeh, 6, a pupil of the Akim Manso Preparatory School and J. Agyapomaa, 4, a pupil of Asanteman Kindergarten were trapped by the fallen wall but were rescured and rushed to the Oda Government Hospital.

The GNA followed up to the hospital where a nurse reminded the media that doctors were on strike and declined to comment further but GNA investigation revealed that Ayeh’s condition was critical and therefore, referred to the Akwatia St Dominic Hospital where he died, while Agyapomaa was doing well at the Oda Government Hospital.
