A severe windstorm that hit the Jomoro District has destroyed property running into hundreds of Ghana cedis.
The rainstorm destroyed the roofs of the Junior High School building at Mangyea, the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE) at Half Assini and the Department of Cooperative offices.
Trees, which provided shade at the Lorry Station at Jewi Wharf to travellers and market women, were also uprooted.
The District Director of the NCCE, Mr Samuel E. Dawson, and the Assemblyman for the Effasu/Mangyea Electoral Area, Mr Ernest Kwofieh, made this known in separate interviews with the GNA, at Half-Assini.
Mr Dawson said the computer monitor at the Commission’s Office and some documents in the Cooperative’s offices were submerged.
He said he had officially notified both the District Assembly and National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) in the area about the situation, but they were yet to offer them assistance.
He said the development would affect the Commission’s activities in the area ahead of the general election if immediate assistance was not received.
Mr Dawson said his outfit had no funds to undertake the repair work since they had received any imprest for some time now.
Mr Kwofieh said the School’s office and the JHS Two Classroom had been destroyed, leaving the pupils to study at the mercy of the weather.
The Assemblyman said the situation was affecting teaching and learning, adding that, the authorities had to send the pupils away when it rained.
The Acting District NADMO Coordinator, Mr Augustus A. Quansah, said his outfit could not offer assistance because of lack of funds and promised to contact the Jomoro District Assembly for help.
