Rainstorm causes damage to Atebubu Senior High

More than 200 students of the Atebubu Senior High School in the Brong-Ahafo Region have been displaced following a severe rainstorm which affected the school on Thursday.

The roof of the two-storey girls’ dormitory block and some portions of the boys dormitory, as well as the bungalows of three tutors of the school were all ripped-off.

Some electric poles in the area and on the school compound also fell, disrupting electricity supply to the school and its immediate environs.

Madam Sophia Adalingeah, Headmistress of the school, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Atebubu, on Tuesday that, the estimated cost of damage to properties is in thousands of Ghana Cedis.

Madam Adalingeah said the school had purchased five electricity poles to restore power, and that, the Electricity Corporation staff would soon commence work.

The Headmistress said the displaced girls, about 160 of them, are now perching with their colleagues on the first floor of the dormitory block, and that, a similar arrangement had been made for the affected boys.

Madam Adalingeah expressed appreciation to the Atebubu-Amantin District Assembly for providing the school with some roofing sheets to re-roof the affected buildings and also promising to bear the cost of refurbishing the whole school.

Mr Gyan Yeboah, Chairman of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of the school said the parents had also arranged for additional workers to complement the efforts of the Assembly to ensure early completion of work.
