Rainstorm caused havoc at Koforidua

Koforidua, April 17, GNA- A severe rainstorm that lasted for about 40 minutes in Koforidua on Wednesday afternoon, ripped off the Dental Clinic and destroyed the waiting shed of the Koforidua Regional Hospital. A big tree fell on the building housing the hospital’s blood bank. The storm also ripped off part of the main stores of the Electricity Company of Ghana in the city and some private buildings at Koforidua Ada.

Mr Peter Agyemang-Gyau, the Hospital Administrator, conducted Mr Peter Oppong, New Juaben Municipal Co-coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organization round the hospital to have a first hand information about the situation. Mr Agyemang-Gyau said if the Dental Clinic was not re-roofed immediately, it would be difficult for the staff to attend to emergency cases. He explained that the disaster had exposed medical equipments at the centre to the weather. Mr Oppong said he would inform the Municipal Chief Executive who is the chairman of the Municipal Disaster Co-coordinating Committee to see how best to mobilize resources to support the hospital.
