Rainstorm and fire destroy property at Bole and Sawla

Sawla (N/R), April 20, GNA – Rainstorm and fire has wrecked havoc on several communities in the Bole and the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba districts destroying property valued at millions of cedis.

The rainstorm affected school blocks, churches, and individual houses including the private residence of the Presiding member of the Bole District Assembly and the “Gbenfuwurche” the queen mother of Gbenfu who had the roofs of her three rooms blown off. Mr Joseph Jando, the District National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) officer, led a team including Alhaji Sulemana Adams Achanso, the Bole District Chief Executive, to inspect the extent of damage. Mr Ben Vondee, a fisherman, said he was out fishing in the night when his house caught fire.

His wife and children raised an alarm and people rescued them but his property was burnt. Items destroyed to include four bags of maize, four bags of cassava, two bundles of fishing nets, three brief cases containing clothing, two mattresses, school uniform, four plastic chairs and four million cedis.

Mr Vondee called for investigations into the cause of the fire outbreak because while the community was helping to put off the fire in his house thieves broke into the house of one Mr Braimah Dentey, a neighbour and made away with two sewing machines, two travelling bags, several smocks and 500,000 cedis.

Mr Mahama Mumuni, the Sawla District Coordinating Director, assured the victims of the disaster that the assembly would assist to resettle them. He later presented blankets and used clothing to Mr Vondee who lost all his possessions in the fire outbreak.
