Rains render more than 90 homeless

Mpeseduadze (C/R), June 11, GNA – Twenty-two houses collapsed, rendering more than 90 people homeless at Mpeseduadze in the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese District of the Central Region, following a heavy downpour last weekend. Also destroyed, were properties worth more than 300 million cedis. This came to light, when Mr Job Acquah Markin, the District Chief Executive (DCE), in the company of some assembly officials, visited the town to acquaint himself with the extent of damage.

Mr Edward Abban, Assembly Member for the Mpeseduadze Electoral Area, who conducted the DCE and his entourage round said, “but for God’s intervention”, the two days of heavy downpour would have caused some damages. According to him, some of the affected persons are putting up in the chief’s palace, while others are putting up with relatives in town. He attributed the disaster to lack of drains in the town and appealed to the government to provide drains to prevent the recurrence of the incident.

Mr Abban, whose house was among those destroyed, said some of the victims lost all their properties and appealed for assistance from the assembly. The DCE expressed concern and assured the people that efforts were being made to provide the needed assistance.

Nana Kwanua III, Queenmother of the town, commended the DCE and his entourage for their concern, and expressed the hope that the victims will soon receive the requisite assistance.
