Rains displace 42 people in Asikuma

Breman Asikuma (C/R), June 19, GNA – A heavy down pour at Breman Asikuma last Tuesday has displaced 42 people following the collapse of their houses mostly built with local materials. Mr Sallas Awotiw, Acting District Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation, told the GNA that 12 buildings were destroyed and personal belongings estimated to cost 23,273.00 Ghana cedis were damaged. Mr Awotiw said most of the affected buildings were old and that lack of good drainage caused the collapse of the buildings that have been threatened by soil erosion. He appealed to non-governmental organisation and individuals to assist the victims who are putting up with relatives and friends.
