The first sessional meeting of the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council began in Accra yesterday. District Chief Executives , representatives of departments ,agencies and constituencies, attending the two- day meeting are expected to evolve ways of ensuring effective implementation of developmental programmes and solutions to problems affecting the region. In his address, Mr. Joshua Alabi, the regional minister, expressed concern about the chieftancy disputes in the region, saying that they could drive potential investors away.

Referring specifically to chieftancy disputes at Osu and Nungua , Mr. Alabi urged traditional authorities in the region to help the RCC to deal expeditiously with problems of land litigation and chieftancy. “These disputes have over the years created serious problems of insecurity in our region and we must take urgent steps to curb further recurrence otherwise we shall fail as a body in ensuring total security for life and property in our region ,” he said . The regional minister explained that with the regions status as the nation’s capital, the gateway and nerve centre of the industrial ,commercial and diplomatic activities among others , it was necessary that it played its role effectively in shaping the destiny of the nation. Mr. Alabi pointed out that it was the responsibility of the region to create the right atmosphere and conditions for investor interest in the country’s economy and project the appropriate image about the country to ensure peace.
