Queenmother finances expansion of school feeding programme

Alavanyo-Kpeme (V/R), July 9, GNA – Students and pupils of the Alavanyo Senior High Technical School (ASTECH) and the Nkonya-Tayi Roman Catholic Primary School are to benefit from a 10-year feeding programme, costing more than GHc150,000. The programme will be funded and implemented by Mamaga Akosua I, “Ngoryifiaga” (Development Queen) of SASADU, a union comprising Saviefe, Akrofu, Sovie and Alavanyo, in collaboration with her daughter, Sara Fayed and a German couple, Mr and Mrs Enzberg Pieper. Mamaga Akosua, who announced the package at Alavanyo-Kpeme at the weekend, said it would help poor parents to keep their children in school.

Mr. John Peter Amewu, Hohoe Municipal Chief Executive, was happy that private individuals appreciated the programme and were contributing to its expansion. He said the SFP, as well as the Capitation Grant, National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and National Youth Employment Programme were all interventions worthy of support and patronage by the citizenry. Togbega Tsedze Atakora VII, Paramount Chief of Alavanyo Traditional Area commended Mamaga Akosua for her initiative and urged the beneficiary communities to co-operate with the benefactors to ensure its success.

Togbega Gabusu VI, President of Volta Regional House of Chiefs urged Alavanyo and Nkonya to own and support the initiative and ensure its success. Mr. Maxwell Blue, Headmaster of ASTECH, commended Mamaga Akosua, who had already built a girls’ dormitory and bought a bus for the school, for her keen interest in helping to improve the environment for teaching and learning at the school. He said lack of potable water and inadequate teaching and boarding facilities were major challenges facing the school.
