Queen Mother gives to Methodist Church

Accra, March 16, GNA – Nana Araba Otua II, Queen Mother of Mankesim Traditional Council, on Thursday presented 80 boxes of mathematics and science textbooks, 15 computers and a Yamaha organ worth more than 45 million cedis to the Methodist Church in Accra.

The items are meant for onward delivery to the Wesley Girls’ High School in Cape Coast, the Mankesim Circuit of the Methodist Church and some selected deprived schools throughout the country. Nana Otua II said the organ valued at 15 million cedis would be presented to the Ebenezer Methodist Church in Mankesim in response to a request made by the Church to the Mankesim Traditional Council. She said the donation of the textbooks was based on an appeal by the leadership of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) to obtain textbooks for some schools whose performance in science and maths was poor due to inadequate textbooks.

She expressed the hope that the textbooks would adequately augment the current stock and help to improve the performance of the schools. Nana Otua II said four of the computers would be presented to the Wesley Girls’ High School because of the school’s “excellent academic record over the past three years”.

She said Mfantsiman Secondary School and the Mankesim Secondary Technical School would be given two computers each, while the remaining seven computers would be distributed to some schools at a later date. The Very Rev. Jacob Obu-Williams, Superintendent Minister in-charge of the Ebenezer Methodist Church, Mankesim, and the Rev Mrs Grace Afranie Osei of the Methodist Educational Unit, Accra, received the items on behalf of the Church.
