Queen Elizabeth greets Ghana on Independence

Accra, March 1, GNA – Queen Elizabeth II of England has congratulated Ghana on her Golden Jubilee anniversary which falls on Tuesday.

In a message to President John Agyekum Kufuor, the Queen said: 93I have much pleasure in sending Your Excellency my congratulations on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the Independence of Ghana, along with my best wishes for the happiness and prosperity of the Government and people of Ghana in the years ahead.”

In the message released by the British High Commission in Accra, Queen Elizabeth said she and Prince Philip were looking forward to President Kufuor forthcoming State Visit to the United Kingdom. Ghana gained independence from Britain on March 6, 1957 and the Duke of Kent would represent the Queen in Tuesday’s Golden Jubilee celebrations.
