Quashigah inaugurates 74 assembly members for TMA

Tema, Oct 30, GNA 96 The Minister for Health, Major Courage Quashigah (Rtd) on Monday inaugurated an 80-member assembly made up of 25 appointees, 54 elected for the Tema Municipal Assembly (TMA) at Tema. The members, including 15 women were sworn into office by Justice Francis G. Korbieh, Supervising High Court Judge of Tema, who enjoined them to be law-abiding.

Major Quashigah read President John Agyekum Kufuor’s message which entreated the members to discharge their duties responsibly, devoid of tendencies that would undermine the progress of development. The message touched on revenue generation from the TMA and Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) and said it was not impressive as compared with that of the Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly and urged them to explore avenues to improve upon it

The Minister also called on all Ghanaians to behave responsibly towards the environment saying, a filthy environment would have negative impact on productivity as well as developmental growth. Mr David Quaye Annang, the Municipal Chief Executive, called for collective efforts by the assembly members through hard work and commitment to duty, as well as co-operation and periodic consultation toward development.

Nii Tetteh Otu II, paramount chief of Kpone and President of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, noted that though Ghana has chalked successes in many areas, a lot has not been achieved due to haphazard development.

He asked, and called for a quick action to address the situation. In attendance were a Member of the Council of State, Alhaji Alhassan Bin-Salih, Tema Mantse, Nii Adjei Kraku II, departmental heads of decentralized institutions and the former Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Samuel Ashong Narh.
