The Ghana Education Service (GES) has called on stakeholders involved in the free SHS policy to play their role effectively to ensure that the quality of education under the free SHS policy is not compromised.
According to the Reverend Jonathan Betty of the Public Relations Unit, The government has provided the required logistic needed for quality education.
“ The quality of education will not be low, whatever is needed to boost the quality which included infrastructure, text books, the welfare of teachers and student have been provided, all we need right now is for all stakeholders to play their role effectively to maintain it.”
He added that the policy will be sustained if government doesn’t fail to provide the remaining 80 percent after they present the full list of those enrolled under the free SHS policy.
“Sustainability calls in for money from the government to the school, they have made a promise, the 20 percent has been given, and we are currently undergoing an administrative process to ensure that government is presented with the right number of a student who enrolled in the free SHS policy for them to release the arrears.”
The free SHS policy was officially launched today September 12, 2017, at the West Africa Senior High School by Nana Akufo-Addo.
The government flagship education policy which began on September 11, 2017, seeks to increase access to Secondary Education by removing the burden of paying fees from parents.
Over 400,000 Senior High School student across the country are expected to benefit from the Free SHS policy.
