PURC rectifies power fluctuations at Abuakwa/Maakro

Kumasi, Jan. 6, GNA – The Ashanti regional office of the Public Utility Regulatory Commission (PURC) has called on residents of the Abuakwa/Maakro in Kumasi currently experiencing power interruptions to exercise restraint and that it was in touch with the Electricity Company to rectify the situation permanently.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency on Thursday, Mr Eric Effah-Donyinah, Ashanti Regional Manager of the PURC, said following numerous complaints by residents about low voltage levels and prolonged power outages, his office had taken up the issue with the service providers.

He said the problem was as a result of overloading of a long distribution feeder due to the ever-increasing consumption patterns and that efforts were far advanced to separate the feeders as a permanent means of improving supply to the affected areas.

“We therefore ask residents of Abuakwa/Maakro to bear with the situation since plans are underway to solve the problem in less than two weeks”, he added.
