Kpong, July 18, GNA – Officials of the Public Utility Regulatory Commission (PURC) on Monday paid a fact-finding visit to the Kpong Treatment Plant to ascertain the extent of work and to know when water supply would be restored to all affected consumers.
The management of Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) on Wednesday July 13 shut-down the Kpong Treatment Plant to enable engineers to repair a major leakage on its fibre glass transmission line.
The fibre glass transmission line transports raw water from the raw water intake to the treatment plant at Kpong.
The closure had affected water supply to areas including, Tema, Michel Camp, Kpong, Prampram, Tema Industrial Area, Ashaiman and Kpone, among others.
Briefing the officials, Mr Ebo Akwandoh, Station Manager, Kpong Water Treatment Plant, said the station had resumed full production and was pumping an average of 36.5 million gallons to the Accra and Tema metropolis.
He expressed the hope that with time all affected communities would get water as the pressure increases.
Mr Stepehen Adu, Executive Secretary of PURC, who led the team, expressed satisfaction about the speed with which the work on the leakage was completed to enable the company resume water treatment to ease the plight of consumers.
