Gomoa Akwakrom (C/R), Feb. 16, GNA- The absence of sufficient desks and chairs at the Gomoa Akwakrom Methodist Primary School near Apam in the Central Region has compelled the pupils of the school to carry kitchen stools to and from school each day for classes. The chief Regent of the town, Nana Solomon K. Ebiah said this when he conducted the GNA round to inspect the classrooms of the school on Tuesday.
According to him the school, which has six classrooms, Office, store and toilet facilities was constructed by the Gomoa district Assembly some two years back, but they did not provide adequate furniture and the community have not been able to provide furniture due to poverty. He said the Methodist church has allowed the school to use its benches as tables, while each pupil brings along kitchen-stools from home, a situation which according to him, did not promote teaching and learning.
According to the Regent only 38 out of the School total population of 300 used furniture supplied by the Assembly and the GES. Nana Ebiah said a request sent to the District Office of the Ghana Education Service and the Gomoa District Assembly some two years ago for more furniture supply are yet to yield result.
