Pupils The building had deep cracks on it, with some of the roofs ripped off, making tof Adentan Community School, a state-owned basic school in the Greater Accra Region, have abandoned classes.
The worrying situation, according to Weekend Today’s investigations, is as a result of the dilapidated state of the school building.
The building a life-threatening situation for the pupils, hence the abandonment of the classrooms.
According to our checks, the problem had existed for the past twenty five (25) years, affecting academic work in the school which has a population of 1,500 pupils.
Additionally, the school’s septic tank had leakages while refuse bins were always overflowing with solid waste, posing health risks to the pupils.
Also the classrooms and corridors had no lights, coupled with poor ventilation with electric cables left hanging dangerously.
Some of the parents whose children attend the school told Weekend Today that the Parents Teachers’ Association (PTA) at a meeting on Friday, May 19, 2017 expressed grave concern about the situation.
They recalled how they killed a snake in one of the classrooms some months ago when classes were in session.
They claimed that they had on several occasions reported the precarious state of the school building to the Greater Accra Regional branch of the GES and the Adentan Municipal Assembly to impress upon government to rehabilitate the school for them, but all to no avail.
According to the worried parents, they came to the resolution that since their calls to the Adentan Municipal Assembly and the GES had yielded no results, they will not allow their wards to attend school until something immediate was done about the situation.
