Pupil, 12 drowns in Tano River

Techiman (B/A), Oct. 17, GNA – The body of a 12 year old pupil of the Ahmadiyya Primary School in Techiman, who accidentally slipped into a gutter after a three-hour down-pour last Sunday was retrieved on Monday.

The pupil was said to be playing with colleagues when he slipped into the swift flowing waters of the main gutter at Wangaraline as he attempted to retrieve his sandals and was carried into the River Tano. Mr George Badu-Kaakyire, Assembly Member for the area and grandfather of the deceased told the Ghana News Agency that at about 1700 hours on Sunday the colleagues were heard shouting for help and when some people rushed there they were told of what had happened. He said a search party could not find the deceased till the early hours of Monday when the body, with a deep cut on the forehead and multiple lacerations was discovered washed ashore at the bank of River Tano at the Tunsuase Electoral Area.

The body has since been deposited at the Holy Family Hospital in Techiman for autopsy.
