Punish politicians when they fail to keep promises – Kwesi Pratt

Kwesi Pratt, Editor-in-Chief of the Insight newspaper, has urged Ghanaians to punish politicians in the country.

Addressing some pertinent economic issues on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” programme, Mr. Pratt registered his displeasure with governments and political figures who fail to fulfill their promises to Ghanaians.

To him, Ghanaians should continue to heap coals on the heads of political leaders in the country until they wake up from their slumber and deliver on their promises.

“The first thing we should do is to complain and complain as loudly as we can, as Ghanaians. Never stop complaining and continue to complain irrespective of who is in power… We should punish politicians when they fail to keep their promises.”

Kwesi Pratt also questioned the government for the difficulties in implementing the 7-year development plan which was drawn out in the 1960s to serve as a guide to enhance the progress of the economy.

According to the seasoned journalist, the government has woefully failed to implement this development plan to remedy the crippling economic challenges facing that Ghanaians.

“We’re in 2014 for God’s sake,” he exclaimed.

He also bemoaned the foreign exchange losses that have characterized the incumbent government and its operations and blamed the government for mismanaging the economy.

“If we have foreign exchange losses, it means the economy is not being managed well. And if the economy is not managed well, why should the poor consumer…be made to suffer because somebody is not managing the economy well?…Somebody should tell me why Ghanaians should suffer because of foreign exchange losses. It shouldn’t have happened in the first instance.”
