Publishing Studies Department of KNUST awards students

Kumasi, May 31, GNA – The Publishing Studies Department of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi has awarded 16 students for their hard work.

The awards, which is first of its kind aimed at boosting the morale of both award winners and other students of the department. They received prizes, which included cash and textbooks. Mr Mohammed Osumanu Braimah was adjudged the overall best student and also best in printing, whilst Mr Godwin Amoah Boahen received the best student in design and illustration.

The award for the best publishing administration also went to Mr Goka Agbenyega whilst Mr Daniel Annan took the award for the best authorship development book.

Professor Daniel Buor, Provost of College of Art and Social Science, in an address cautioned students against wasting their time on unnecessary things and urged them to work harder. He noted that discipline is the hallmark of success and therefore asked them to live disciplined lives.

Prof Buor commended the sponsors for the programme, including Heidelberg Ghana Limited, Universal Press and Cita Press for their support to ensure the success of the programme.

Mr Henrik Nielson-Kolding, Service Director, Heidelberg Ghana Limited, said assisting in the training of print media experts in the country forms part of the social responsibilities of the company. He disclosed that the company would also organize clinics for both lecturers and students of the college in addition to collaborating in the area of joint research and supply of some basic printing materials to enhance teaching and research work. Mr Isaac Kofi Appiah, Head, Publishing Studies Department, said the major problem facing the department was logistics, including lack of transportation. He appealed to the government and other organizations to assist in addressing the problem.
