Public urged to support government to solve SHS housing problem

Ho, Oct. 25, GNA – Colonel Cyril Necku (Rtd), Deputy Volta Regional Minister, on Friday called on the general public to support government efforts to find a solution to the current problem of housing first year Senior High School (SHS) students. He said it was wrong to regard the problem as that for government alone to solve, when some individual and groups had the experience and the intellectual capacity to make some impact on tackling it. Lt. Col. Necku was addressing a dinner hosted by the Volta Regional Coordinating Council for participants of the 17th Annual Conference of the Directors of Education (CODE) in Ho.

He commended SHS school heads for their ingenious innovations in containing the situation while waiting for government’s measures to fully solve the problem. The conference was on the theme; “Ensuring Quality Human Resource Development, the Role of Stakeholders”. Among those who addressed the conference were Dr George Afeti, Executive Director of the National Inspectorate Board (NIB), Ms Benedicta Naana Biney, Acting Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) and a representative of Mr Alex Tettey-Enyo, Minister of Education. Dr Afeti said the NIB was to become an effective quality assurance body for GES working as an independent organization directly under the Ministry of Education. He said the role of the Inspectorate Division of the GES would be redefined under the new scheme of things. 25 Oct. 10
