Public office seekers must be ready to serve – Catholic Bishop

The Catholic Bishop of Koforidua, Most Reverend Joseph Afrifah-Agyekum, has asked politicians seeking public office to be ready to serve. He observed that authority is for service and the only way to reduce the political intolerance cropping up in communities lately.

He was addressing Catholic faithful of the Koforidua Deanery in the Eastern Regional capital.

Most Reverend Afrifah-Agyekum observed that politicians have been campaigning to seek the mandate of electorates on December 7, expressing hope they do so in the spirit of service to the nation for prosperity, peace and religious development.

He asked all seeking political leadership positions to take cue from Christ, who used His authority to serve.

“We all need prosperity, peace and religious development. The politicians are campaigning all over, those striving into political leadership must take cue from God to serve the people.

In effect political power should translate and replace service to the power of God.”

The event marked the launch of Silver Jubilee Anniversary of the creation of the Catholic Diocese of Koforidua, the Feast of Christ the King and climax of the Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy by the Catholic Church.
