Public donate blood to Dormaa Ahenkro Presbyterian hospital

Dormaa Ahenkro (B/A), July 7, GNA- A large number of people in Dormaa Ahenkro in the Brong Ahafo region, last Tuesday, donated blood to the blood bank of the Presbyterian hospital in the town, as part of activities marking Ghana’s Republic Day celebrations.

The donation was the public’s response to an appeal by the hospital to mobilize enough blood for its bank to enable it to respond positively to demands.

The blood donors were presented with food items and commended for showing concern for prospective blood recipients. Mr Fred Effah-Yeboah, General Manager of the hospital noted that, shortage of blood at the health facility was a major challenge that required collective approach to resolve.

He said the hospital had acquired a modern blood refrigerator that was capable of storing a much bigger stock. Mr Effah-Boateng appealed to members of identifiable groups such as keep-fit clubs, youth associations and religious organizations to donate more blood to the hospital to save lives. He said they could do this in turns to ensure that the donation was spread over the year to ensure availability all year round. The hospital’s laboratory technologist, in-charge of blood donation, Mr Ben Combert, urged eligible blood donors in the municipality to endeavour to join, what he described as standby donor groups, who assist the hospital even at odd hours to respond to emergencies. Mr Combert commended the donors for their humanitarian gesture and appealed to the youth to avail themselves of such gestures.
