PTA to Provide classroom structure for Kromo Presbyterian JSS

Techiman (B/A), Oct. 18, GNA – The Parent Teacher Association of Kromo Presbyterian ‘B’ Junior Secondary school at Techiman in Brong Ahafo is to construct a 15.7 million cedis structure to provide temporary classroom accommodate for the more than 400 students of the school.

The Association has thus levied each student 25,000 cedis, towards the project, Mr Daniel Baffoe, PTA Secretary, told a meeting of the Association in Techiman.

He explained that the introduction of the capitation grant had forced some of the students to attend classes under trees and the project was to supplement government efforts in providing quality education.

Madam Janet Ayerepokia, Assistant Headmistress, appealed to parents to mould their children properly, saying nurturing and controlling children demanded firmness without injuring the children. She expressed regret about the attitude of some parents “who do not care to know where their children slept the last night”. Madam Ayerepokia cited a case where a final year JSS pupil of the school had a miscarriage at an examination centre and the failure of all the female candidates the school presented for the BECE this year. Madam Ayerepokia appealed to parents to provide their children with their basic needs to make teaching and learning more practicable. Mr Eric Mantey, Mock Examination Coordinator, complained about the refusal of parents to support their children to take part in the mock examination which had adversely affected the academic performance of the students.

He explained that mock examinations provided the confidence to the candidates to improve their performance in the final examination and urged parents to prepare their children well for the compulsory mock examination this year to raise their standard of performance in the BECE.
