PTA sink one billion cedis in school projects

Koforidua, Nov. 22, GNA – The Parent-Teacher-Association (PTA) of Koforidua Secondary-Technical School, has over a period of two years, sunk nearly one billion cedis in upgrading and providing educational facilities at the school.

The Association had within the period, procured a 302-million-cedi school bus and an 81-million-cedi tractor, fitted with a slasher and plough to improve the study of Agriculture Science and the general sanitary condition of the compound.

The PTA Chairman, Mr Obeng Yeboah, addressing parents at a meeting at Koforidua on Saturday, said the Association also funded the construction of a 400-million-cedi six-bedroom transit quarters, meant to solve accommodation problems usually encountered by newly posted teachers and National Service personnel.

Additionally, the PTA had financed the construction of a new school block running into several millions of cedis while it had also borne the cost of constructing a science block, totaling 135 million cedis. He said the Association had provided 100 mono desks at 49 million cedis and constructed a visitor’s lounge and a toilet facility. Mr Yeboah told the gathering that the investments were paying off, citing the 100 per cent performance of the school at the 2004 Senior Secondary Schools Certificate Examination as an example. According to the PTA Chairman, the Association amply rewarded academic units of the school, which exceeded their performance quota with cash prizes and other incentives.

Mr Yeboah urged future PTAs of the school to continue with the investments and to build on the co-operation currently prevailing between teachers and parents of the school, which had enabled so many projects to be embarked upon at a relatively short period of time.
