PTA organises drama on children education

Akumsa (B/A) July 21, GNA – Executive Members of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) at Akumsa Domase in Nkoranza District of Brong Ahafo has organised a drama to sensitise the people on children’s education.

The drama depicted one of two families, who even though poor, decided to spend their little resources on the education of their children.

The other family, a rich one, used their resources on new clothes, women, friends, alcoholism and other frivolous things and neglected their children’s education.

The six children of the poor parents took their education seriously and became successful in life.

The male children of the rich family ended up in the streets and joined bad peer groups who smoked Indian hemp (wee), took hard drinks and hard drugs, while the girls engaged in illicit sexual practices. The wee smoking children were arrested by the Police and jailed for five years each, while one of the girls died of HIV/AIDS.

Addressing the people after the drama, Miss Sophia Adalingeah, Nkoranza District Girls Education Officer, advised parents to enrol both male and female children in school. She urged them to provide the children with their basic school needs and to encourage them to pursue higher education to be able to acquire gainful employment.

Miss Adalingeah cautioned school girls against pre-marital sexual practices to avoid contracting HIV/AIDS. She urged the community to establish a Scholarship Scheme to cater for needy but brilliant children to enhance the development of the community.

Nana Kofi Frimpong, an elder in the community, who presided, commended the District Education Directorate for the drama, which he said, had helped to sensitise the people on their roles and responsibilities towards their children’s education.
