PTA of Wa Islamic Senior High assists school

Wa. Aug. 9, GNA – The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) of the Wa Islamic Senior High School has through special levies executed a number of projects and provided facilities within the past few years to boost academic work in the school.

The PTA has constructed a dining hall block, rehabilitated a structure, which now serves as the ICT centre, constructed a three unit KVIP toilet for the staff and a four-unit block to house the library and stores.

The school, which was absorbed into the public system in 2002, was also provided with a five-unit class-room block including a Staff Common Room, 80 pieces of mountain beds and 50 pieces of dual desks by the PTA. Mr Suleiman Alhassan, Headmaster of the school, made these known at Wa on Friday when he commissioned the dining hall block, the recent of the projects, constructed by the PTA. The headmaster, who was received the keys to the building from the PTA chairman, Alhaji Osuman Adamu, thanked the PTA for their consistency in their assistance and urged other organizations and well wishes to also support the school to grow.

He appealed to the Government to release funds for the fencing of the school compound in order to ward off animals and other intruders who have been constantly disturbing academic activities. Mr Kale Caesar, Deputy Upper West Regional Minister who commissioned the project, acknowledged the important role PTAs were playing in the development of educational institutions and noted that without their support, some schools would have ceased functioning. He commended the school for being among the best in the region as far as academic performance was concerned, and attributed this to discipline and hard work by the staff. Mr Caesar said the Regional Coordinating Council had done a survey of Senior High schools in the region and found out that five of them, including the Wa Islamic Senior High School, needed fence walls and efforts were being made to access the GET Fund to support its construction. 9 Aug. 09
