Psychiatric nurses declare indefinite strike

Aggrieved nurses at the Psychiatric hospital have declared an indefinite strike effective today, Monday October 31.

The Nurses served notice of a complete withdrawal of services from over government’s failure to provide medical supplies and funds for the day to day running of the facility.

Several attempts to get the nurses to review their decision have been unsuccessful.

Spokesperson for the group, Philip Frempong Okyere, told Starr News that the nurses can no longer risk their lives.

“The work place has become increasingly dangerous and we cannot continue to expose ourselves to the danger. All we receive is assurances over assurances but nothing positive has come out of it.

“Last Thursday we met the mental health authority and they assured us that they are going to work to meet the deadline but the deadline has elapsed and we cannot continue to compromise our lives”.

Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officer of the hospital, Dr. Pinaman Appau says several attempts to address the facility’s challenges have failed.

She told Starr News that government must immediately address the situation to avert more problems.
