Psychiatric Hospital to release 300 patients over strike

The Mental Health Authority has ordered management of the Accra Psychiatric Hospital to discharge more than 300 patients on admission at the facility.

Nurses at the hospital started an indefinite strike today in protest at the indecent conditions at work and government’s failure to provide them with basic supplies.

This action follows a similar decision to stay away from what they described as hazardous cases throughout last week pending a total withdrawal.

Leadership of the Mental Health Authority earlier today invited the aggrieved Nurses to a meeting hoping to persuade them to resume work.

Starr News’ Papisdaff Abdullah Ali visited the facility and reports that the nurses are indifferent.

Chairman of the Mental Health Authority Dr. Akwesi Osei told Starr News that the hospital must take contingency measures to immediately avert a possible tragedy at the facility.

According to him, conditions at the facility makes it difficult for the nurses to continue with their work.
