PSWU members displeased with wrongful deductions

Ho, Nov. 25, GNA – Members of the Ho branch of the Public Services Workers Union (PSWU) of the Ghana Trade Union Congress (GTUC), on Tuesday expressed misgivings about alleged over deductions of Union dues by the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD). The members at a general meeting of the Union at Ho, said they observed that for several months now, the CAGD had been deducting between 1 Ghana cedi and 10 Ghana cedis as Union dues instead of 10 Ghana Pesewas recommended by the mother Union.

They said that the CAGD has been paying only 10 Ghana pesewas out of the amounts deducted to the mother Union. The meeting requested the CAGD to refund the deductions to the affected persons or the Union.

Mr Gordon Bodza, Regional Industrial Relations Officer, said the Union recognized the problem and had notified the Department about steps being taken to solve the problem.

He said the CAGD explained that the figures were changed “scientifically” by their system during the redenomination exercise. Mr Bodza urged the members to keep their cool as the Union tried to resolve the problem.

He advised workers to conduct themselves peacefully before, during and after the December 7 elections.
