PSWU elects national officers

Mr Samuel Mensah Nyarko, 49, was on Wednesday re-elected the National Chairman of the Public Services Workers Union (PSWU) of the Trades Union Congress at its Sixth Regular Quadrennial Delegates’ Conference at Santasi, near Kumasi.

He polled 77 votes to defeat Mr James Ekow Amissah, who had 51 votes.

The election climaxed the conference, which 131 and 250 observers attended.

Mr David Kudowor, National Vice Chairman, was returned unopposed while Mrs Georgina Opoku Amankwa polled 68 votes to become the new National Woman Vice Chairperson. She defeated Ms. Cecilia Bawaana Naab and Mrs Sally Agyemang, who had 36 and 22 votes, respectively.

Mr A.T.D. Okine was returned unopposed as the General Secretary while Mr Emmanuel Ofori polled 79 votes to defeat the incumbent, Mr Horatius Yartey Quaye, who polled 51 votes for the Deputy General Secretary’s position.

Mr Daniel Arhin-Sam and Mrs Alberta Anita Adjei were also returned unopposed as the first and second national trustees.

Mr Joseph N. Attivie, the Reverend Manfred Wedam and Mr Joseph Akayume Anamoo were also elected to serve on the Audit Committee of the Union.

Swearing them into office, Mr Alex Bonni, National Chairman of the TUC, urged the newly elected officers to unite, attract more members into the Union and to support the TUC in solving some of the challenges the Union and workers face in their various workplaces.

The new Executives would serve a four-year-term. Mr Lawrence Sarpong, Second Deputy Regional Director of the Electoral Commission (EC) conducted the elections.
